Darkenhöld: A passage to the towers...

Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to yet another episode of “Ye Global Domination Band Questionnaire”! Today, the topic wheel has stopped on a square called “Darkenhöld: A passage to the towers…”, so buckle up and get those braincells warmed up, because this one is not going to be easy!
Question 1. With a name like “Darkenhöld”, you can really only play one of two things: A Would-be-Blind Guardian power metal or B slightly melodic black metal.
Answer: This is actually a pretty easy one, as seasoned metalheads should know that only black metal bands actually have the letter “ö” in their name. So the answer is of course: B
Question 2. Darkenhöld are a trio whose absolute favorite bands are early Immortal and Emperor, and their biggest dream would be to frot with Ihsahn. True or false?
Answer: Positively true. Just like with birds, Darkenhöld hold the belief that if you make the same sounds as your would-be partner, they’ll instantly want to reproduce with you. Biology 101.
Question 3. Apart from pretentious Norwegians Darkenhöld also adore German folklore (despite being French), so much so that they sing about it every chance they get. True or false?
Answer: False! Darkenhöld actually hate everything that has with folklore to do, and instead focus on castles. That’s right, these guys sing about old hunks of rock from the Middle Ages. Probably the most original thing about the band.
Question 4. Despite the general negativity of the questions and the fact that they bring little new to the table, “A passage to the towers…” is still an enjoyable listen. True or false?
Answer: Pretty much true. This is a clear case of “if you can’t do anything new, just perfect what’s already there”-syndrome. The instrumentation is tight, the vocals are – while not anything mind blowing – certainly capable and the production is pretty spot on that line between kvlt and clear. Variation and dynamics are present in both songs and the album as a whole, but don’t count on furiously humming any of these tunes on the bus.
Question 5. What number am I thinking about?
